Part 1.
Solving Kryptos K4

Welcome to "Prophecy Kryptos: Solving Kryptos K4, Tongues Confirmation, and Practical Persuasion."  Suggestion: begin on this page with Part 1. Solving Kryptos K4.  The analysis of Kryptos K4 (the part 4 coding) is a demonstration of what we can achieve when we simply play mathematically and verbally with letters.

Part 1. Solving Kryptos K4

1.a. Conquering Kryptos K4

When I learned that K4 on the sculpture "Kryptos" by sculptor James Sanborn, which stands outside of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Langley, Virginia, had been unsolved for many years, my first belief was that I, too, could not decode K4.  Yet, when I glanced at K4 on the Internet, I was amazed at K4's 1st line's 4 letters, 1 with _: OBKR.

 O B K R U O X O G H U L B S O L I F B B W F L R V Q Q P R N G K S S O T W T Q S J Q S S E K Z Z W A T J K L U D I A W I N F B N Y P V T T M Z F P K W G D K Z X T J C D I G K U H U A U E K C A R

I thought of BOOK, because I am an author/publisher.  Otherwise, the 97 characters of K4 seemed to me to contain so much repetition that I suspected--and hoped--that only a few of the letters would make it into the solution of K4.

As I looked for BOOK, I mentally rethought the 1st letter as follows: O = -O = minus O.  In other words, I mentally got rid of the 1st letter O, which meant that BOOK would begin with the 2nd letter B--and also BOOK would end with the 32nd letter K.  However, there was a challenge for me with the OO in BOOK: between the chosen 2nd letter B and the chosen 32nd letter K, there are 3 letters O.  Therefore, I had to choose 2 of the 3 letters O, according to some pattern.  Following are the chosen B and the patterned O, O, K, and L, too, in green.

 O B K R U O X O G H U L B S O L I F B B W F L R V Q Q P R N G K S S O T W T Q S J Q S S E K Z Z W A T J K L U D I A W I N F B N Y P V T T M Z F P K W G D K Z X T J C D I G K U H U A U E K C A R

Already, to make understanding the solution of Kryptos K4 simple, we can list our steps, according to the determined pattern.

1) Choose BSTOP

2) Count 4 from B to O, and leave the 4 alone for now.

3) Count 9 from O to O, and realize that 4 + 9 = 13.  (I once won a contest with the number 13.)

4) Count 17 from O to K, and realize that 9 + 17 = 26.  Since 26 - 13 = 13, we can go for one more letter.

5) Add 26 + 13 = 39.  Also, review that since 4 + 9 = 13 and 9 + 17 = 26, then the question is 17 + ? = 39.
Count 22 from K to L, and realize that 17 + 22 = 39.  (The number 13 is a factor of 26 and 39.)  STOP

At this point, when many people would think of pulling out their hair, I calmed down and realized what was needed: flexibility.  After all, there was no reason why this puzzle should not require a change in tactics.  Since the numbers were getting too large, and I was getting tired of counting, I decided to use the highest total number 39 and add to it the mere 4, which I had earlier abandoned, to get 43.

6) Count 43 from L to R, having used 39 + 4 = 43.  I then recircled--using the next highest total number 26.

7) Count 30 from R to N, having used 26 + 4 = 30.  Now, I would have to repeat, only subtracting 4.

8) Count 35 from N to Y, having used 39 - 4 = 35.

9) Count 22 from Y to K, having used 26 - 4 = 22.  STOP

10) B, O, O, K, L, R, N, and Y already spell BROOKLYN, and we have the K and need only the O to spell OK.
Count 11 from K to O, because K is the 11th letter of the English alphabet, and we circle K4 twice.  STOP

Following are the patterned R, N, Y, K, and O, too, added in blue.

 O B K R U O X O G H U L B S O L I F B B W F L R V Q Q P R N G K S S O T W T Q S J Q S S E K Z Z W A T J K L U D I A W I N F B N Y P V T T M Z F P K W G D K Z X T J C D I G K U H U A U E K C A R

Having been born in Brooklyn, I am OK with my 08-01-07 solution: BROOKLYNOK

1.b. Determining the Intended Reward

I noticed these 8 words from the beginning to the end of K4: OX    SO    IF    SO    AT    WIN    DIG    CAR

I also noticed these 5 words from the end to the beginning of K4: RACK    AID    TO    GO    OUR

I rearranged the anagram of all 13 words into the following 10-word reward:

OUR FOX TRACKS IO GOOD AIDS TO WIN A CIGAR

Notice how this particular 10-word answer fits the repetition in the 10-step pattern established in 1.a.  OURFOX TRACKS IOGOOD AIDSTO WIN ACIGAR is comprised of 4 groups of 6 letters before WIN, and WIN is followed by a 5th group of 6 letters.  (Incidentally, while O appears 6 times, common E appears not at all; therefore, O is the 15th letter of the English alphabet, E is the 5th letter of the English alphabet, 15 - 5 = 10, and J is the 10th letter of the English alphabet so that we can see that OEJ = JOE.)

1.c. Finding/Creating Another Reward

Haunted by the number 4 in K4, the 4 letters in OBKR, and the 2 sets of patterned 4 steps each in 1.a., I decided that I would try to find a total of 4 solutions even if the 3rd and 4th were to be inventions of my imagination.  It made perfect sense to me to try to find/create another reward from the 8 letters at the beginnings and ends of each K4 line: OR  UO  TP  VR.  I rearranged the anagram of 8 letters into the following 4-word reward:

TV OUR PRO _ = TV OUR PRO I = TV, OUR PRO WON

Notice the initial 9 letters/character, the evolved 11 letters, and the 4 words.  (Incidentally, I is the 9th letter of the English alphabet, K is the 11th letter of the English alphabet, and D is the 4th letter of the English alphabet so that we can see that IKD = KID.)

1.d. Finding/Creating Yet Another Reward and More

The most immediately obvious tools left are these 2 characters: _ and _.  By a step of faith and imagination, I found the following reward:

_ _ = I I = i i = . . I I = . . + = . . I I I I = . . _ I _ I = . . PP = points checks = point's checks = POINT IS CHECKS

(Incidentally, with _ _, JOE KID _ _ = JOE KID II = JOE KID II = JOE KID SECOND = ID JOKE SECOND  OKPOINT IS CHECKS is a pun: not only does the BROOKLYNOK solution to K4 check but also checks will come.  So much for 1 incidental 05-26-12 find 4 to 5 years later!)
